SCARLETT’S STRIDE – Seventy-two people walked the 12-mile route raising £1,600 for the church repair fund.
Guy Whalley (5) and Lydia Wrathall (4) completed the walk and raised £200 in sponsor money. The church wardens thanked Matthew Pickles and Eric Wrathall for organising the walk, the cooks and bakers who catered for the walkers and everyone who helped in any way. Thanks, too, to sponsors of the event which may be moved to spring next year.
WHIST – Winners were: ladies - Mrs J. Crabtree, Mrs W. Newham, consolation Mrs M. Bleasdale. Gents - Mrs G.M. Walsh, Mrs M. Heys, consolation Mrs O. Western. Dominoes - Mrs E. Nicholson, Mr D. Wrathall, Mrs P. Longrigg, consolation Mrs J. Cottam. The raffle was won by Mrs G. Smith and the next whist and domino drive will be on Thursday.
FRIENDLY HOUR – Members and friends enjoyed a coach trip to Lytham last Tuesday with lunch at The Hole-in-One Restaurant. Despite a damp start, they had a lovely day at the resort. It will be the usual meeting this week, starting at noon.
ST JOHN’S CHURCH – On Wednesday evening at Church House butcher George Heys will give a presentation followed by a beef supper.
