Cliviger plans celebrations for Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

WHIST – Prizewinners at the whist drive last week in the village hall were: Lady: 1, Mrs M. Butterworth; 2, Mrs J. Metcalfe; consolation, Mrs J. Ramsden. Gent: 1, Mrs P. Lonrigg; 2, Mrs G. Smith; consolation, Mrs O. Western.

Domino drive winners were Mrs M. Johnston, Mrs M. Heys, Mr D. Wrathall; consolation, Mrs B. Crook. The raffle was won by Mr D. Wrathall. The next whist and domino drive will be on Thursday.

QUEEN’S JUBILEE – The parish council would like to hear from organisations in the parish who would be interested in jointly organising an event to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year.

COMPUTERS – The first session of the computer class will be in the village hall on Friday. The first two taster classes are free and beginners are welcome along with anyone who would like to improve their skills.

MOUNT ZION CHURCH – The young people had a great night bowling as part of the Friday Free 3 programme. Lenten study is in various homes around the village on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Everyone welcome, contact Alan on 429371.

CAP – The Cliviger Archive Group has arranged a display in the hairdresser’s salon about days gone by in Walk Mill. Any comments, particularly if the names of people pictured are known, would be welcome.

FRIENDLY HOUR – Members spent a delightful afternoon on Tuesday when Miss M. Crowther presented an illustrated talk on a holiday in Italy visiting Venice, Rome, Florence and Pisa. A lovely series of slides brought back happy memories to many members. The guest today will be Donna Roe-Green.

ST JOHN’S – Friday will be Race Night at Church House. Tickets cost £8, including supper and a race card, and are available from M. Nixon or M. Ecroyd. A fund-raising meeting will be held on Tuesday evening at Mrs P. Shepherd’s home.
