CLIVIGER: Changes to flower show

WHIST – Winners at the whist drive in the village hall were: G. Smith, J. Crabtree, M. Duckworth, P. Longrigg, J. Ramsden, O. Western. The domino drive winners were: J. Moffat, D. Wrathall, E. Nicholson and J. Cottam. The competition winner was M. Duckworth. The next whist and domino drive will be on Thursday.

FLOWER SHOW – At the first meeting of the Flower Show Committee, several changes were made to the schedule. Foliage pot plants are to be added to the flower section, courgette and pepper classes are to be added to the vegetable section and the baking section is to include shortbread and a decorated cupcake. The embroidery class is to be replaced by needlecraft, which includes knitting, crochet, embroidery and dressmaking. The photographic section now states the picture of local interest must be of Cliviger. There will be space for advertising in schedules, which are to be delivered to most homes in the parish. The committee’s next meeting is on May 18th.

COMPUTER CLASS – Classes will restart on May 13th at 10 a.m. in the village hall.

FRIENDLY HOUR – John Bentley spoke of his career in the Intelligence Corps, spending much of his time in China and Hong Kong. After leaving Colne Grammar School, he took a job on the railways before volunteering for the Army. He then talked about his selection for the Intelligence Corps.
