TWO fire crews descended on Burnley town centre when three cleaners found themselves stuck in a lift.

The three women, who had been cleaning at the Boots store in St James’s Street, raised the alarm at 8-30 a.m. on Tuesday when the lift broke.

Acting watch manager Alan Ashworth, from Burnley Fire and Rescue, said: “We isolated the lift and manually wound it down. We then opened the doors using a special key we have.

“A crew was at the top and one at the bottom which we always do for communication purposes. The women were unhurt and just relieved to be released.”
