A Burnley group of six businesses and charities has scooped a prestigious international award for non-governmental, non-profit organisations and associations.

The Calico Group, based in Centenary Court, received the prize for Excellence in the Third Sector at the Investors in People (IIP) Award Ceremony held at the Tower of London.

The group’s various companies provide housing services, offer support to the homeless and to victims of domestic abuse, and provide a range of drug and rehabilitation services.

Katie Willan, Human Resources Officer at the Calico Group and Sarah Hanson, Managing Director at Acorn Recovery Projects - one of the group’s companies - accepted the award from IIP Award judge, Sara Ward and comedian Rory Bremner.

“The Calico Group showed a real sense of passion for both its employees and its customers,” said IIP Awards judge Ms Ward.

“The team should be extremely pleased with their achievement.

“It is organisations like these that form the backbone of Investors in People.”

Earlier this year, Calico came 41st in the Sunday Times’ Best 100 Companies ‘Not for Profit’ list
