There must be something in the water at a Burnley care home which has no less than four centenarians among its residents.

Paddock Lodge Care Home in Highfield Avenue, Reedley, held a special party for its oldest resident Mrs Hilda Craven who marked her 103rd birthday.

And Hilda was joined by fellow golden girls 101-year-old Annie Parkes and 100 year-olds Mary Wilde and Emily Healey.

Care home manager Marie Metcalfe said: “I think it’s amazing that we have four ladies living here at such a good age.

“They are all remarkable, and all like to join in with the activities we have here.

“I think it must be down to all the good food and good care. They all like a tipple too! There is a real family atmosphere here and lots of the residents and staff have been here a long time.

“I’ve worked here for 25 years, Hilda has been here 10 years, Annie and Emily for nine years and Mary has been here for seven years.”

Hilda, who is originally from Ilford in Essex, also enjoyed a Christmas party with the residents complete with buffet, raffle and tombola.
