A controversial plan to build an outdoor sports centre at a Burnley beauty spot has been refused after councillors heard impassioned pleas from residents.

The plan, which was to form part of Burnley Borough Council’s Brun Valley Forest Park project, would have seen a wakeboarding facility built at Rowley Lake near Worsthorne.

But despite a recommendation for approval from officers, the plan was narrowly refused by eight votes to seven from the council’s Development Control Committee.
