A BUTTY born in Burnley could end up on sale nationwide following a competition held by Greggs.

The high street bakery has launched a nationwide hunt for a tasty new sandwich, and Burnley woman Lyarna Manley (27) has made it to the final seven after showcasing her talents to a panel of Greggs sandwich experts.

Lyarna, from Rosegrove, caught the judges’ attention with a sandwich of bacon, brie, rocket and red onion chutney on an oval bite.

Budding sandwich inventors were invited to use a new app on the Greggs Facebook site and put forward their dream filling combinations.

The final winner will, for the first time in Greggs’ 70-year-history, see their sandwich sold in selected stores and win £500.

Lyarna said: “You can tantalise any taste region on the tongue but this creation will hit all the right ones in an enveloping indulgence. It’s not for wolfing down, take your time and you will find the pleasure of ‘The Posh Bite’”

A spokesman for Greggs said: “The shortlisted seven all presented unique ideas. We can’t wait to see who wins.”

Lyarna has until Wednesday, September 5th, to drum up as many online votes as possible for her sandwich. To vote for Lyarna go to www.facebook.com/greggsthebakers. All runners up will win free lunch at Greggs every week for a year.
