A phone retailer which has a shop in Burnley has gone into administration.

Phones 4U, which is owned by private equity firm BC Partners, said its 550 stores would all be closed today.

The company, which employs 5,596 people, blamed mobile network EE’s decision not to renew its contract, which followed a similar move from Vodafone earlier in September.

BC Partners said it is “intended that employees will continue to be paid until further notice.”
