A Briercliffe man and pub regular who gave up drinking alcohol for a month after a bet with a friend has raised £1,500 for Pendleside Hospice.
Neil Potts raised the cash through his no drinking challenge from March until April. Neil, who has worked at Warburtons Bakery in Burnley for 26 years and is now a sales team leader, is a regular customer at The Sun Inn in Harle Syke.
He said: “One of my colleagues is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and so I know how it can affect people’s lives and families.
“The reason I chose to do a dryathon was because I regularly go to The Sun Inn at Harle Syke and one night my friend bet me £50 I couldn’t stop drinking for a whole month, the figure quickly rose to £200 before I left the pub. That’s when I decided to turn it into a fund-raising initiative which has proved to be really successful. Many thanks to all my family, friends and colleagues who sponsored me.”
