Shoppers flock to Padiham superstore opening

OPEN: Tesco opened for business this morning

OPEN: Tesco opened for business this morning

DOZENS of shoppers have flocked to Padiham’s new £11m. superstore which opened its doors this morning.

Around 50 expectant customers queued up outside the Wyre Street store ahead of the 8am opening.

Staff welcomed scores of shoppers in with reusable “I Love Padiham” bags ahead of the official opening which is expected later this morning.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Padiham Coun. Alan and Linda Ravencroft will hold a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 10am to officially mark the opening.

Shoppers have been impressed with Padiham’s new supermarket which features 239 parking spaces, pharmacy, click and collect desk and clothes as well as groceries.

Vicki Evans, of Padiham, said: “We have come especially for the opening. I was begged to get up early because the kids were so excited about it.”

Pat Cocker, of Manchester Road, Burnley, added: “It is a nice store. Hopefully it will boost Padiham and give some of the other shops a boost.”

The superstore at the former Britannia Mill site will open 24 hours from 6am on Monday until midnight on Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
