Hundreds of Burnley homes were hit by a power cut earlier today

Scores of houses in the Brunshaw area were affected when the power went down around 8am.

Residents in Slaidburn Avenue, Brunshaw Road, Belmont Grove and Stonyhurst Avenue were among those affected.

Electricity North West estimated several hundred homes were affected by the blackout.

But the electricity network owner sent out engineers and power were restored to the majority of houses immediately.

However around 45 homes were still without power this afternoon and generators were being brought in to fix the supply.

A spokesman for Electricity North West said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we will work to restore power to homes affected as soon as possible.”
