Illuminati in Hammerton Street will reopen on Saturday, May 28th after a refit and will serve food with a “pay what you think it’s worth” policy.

Owner Tom Lord has promised the food to be unlike anything in the town at the moment and has decided on the pricing policy to help raise money for Wil’s Wishes, a charity started in memory of his good friend Wil Handford who died from cancer in October last year.

Although there will be no prices on the menu, Tom has set a price for each dish and has pledged that any profit from a course will go to the charity.

Tom said: “Since the opening night two-and-a-half years ago, the bar has been a great success and we now want to change it up again but this time in an even bigger way.

“We are going to be introducing food, again to a standard different to any where else in Burnley, and we are introducing something new entirely.

“We are going to be having a ‘pay what you think it’s worth’ policy that does exactly that. We will trial this for the first three months with the hope to continue it indefinitely. It’s a concept that, quite frankly, we have no idea how the public will react.

“The main purpose behind introducing the scheme is to raise money for a charity that is very close to my heart.

“We want to keep my close friend Wil’s name remembered and to fund-raise for his charity through my bar is an honour.

“Wil died from cancer, a disease which also sadly took my father as well a few years ago.

“I have always been heavily involved in raising money for cancer based charities and Wil’s Wishes is a fairly new charity that aims to help raise awareness of bowel cancer and helps those who are affected by terminal illness.

“We hope that by not only introducing food to Illuminati, but changing up and revolutionising the way in which people dine in terms of pricing, that we can make a massive difference to a charity that I will forever be involved with.”
