A Burnley woman is celebrating after notching up 35 years working for the same firm of accountants.
Geraldine Spencer was just 18 when she joined East Lancashire chartered accountants and business advisers Cassons in 1979.
Thirty-five years on, she is the company’s administration manager at its office in Haslingden, and has seen the business go from strength to strength.
Geraldine said: “The company had just two partners when I started – now we have eight, and the number of staff has grown from 10 to 60.
“Our managing partner Les Nutter was a trainee chartered accountant when I joined.”
Starting with the firm as a secretary and receptionist, Geraldine moved into administration and spent time at Cassons’ Manchester office before returning to the Burnley office, which is now located in Haslingden.
One of the longest serving members of staff at the firm, Geraldine says the camaraderie of the team is the reason why she’s stayed with Cassons.
“It’s a progressive firm and the staff are great to work with – many of the team have been here for 10, 20, or even 30 years.”
Cassons presented Geraldine with a bouquet of flowers at an event attended by all staff and they will also celebrate her time with the business, along with the firm’s other long servers, at the annual Christmas event.
