Unemployment has fallen in Burnley from 4.9% to 4.7%.
The number of unemployed claimants in Burnley fell from 2,035 in March to 1,953 in April. The number of people out of work is 685 lower than in April last year.
Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle welcomed the figures.
He said: “I am delighted to hear about the further drop in unemployment in the local area. This represents another step in the right direction for the local economy and the Coalition Government’s pledge to get people back to work.”
Mr Birtwistle further stated that enduring investment in Burnley is crucial in ensuring that the unemployment numbers continue to tumble, and the recent announcements of investment from local employers Boohoo and Warburtons will ensure further jobs will be arriving in Burnley over the coming months.
