Banny’s chip shop bid for Weavers’ Triangle

NEW PLANS: Fish and chip shop plan for Weavers Triangle

NEW PLANS: Fish and chip shop plan for Weavers Triangle

Plans have been submitted to create a drive-through fish and chip shop in Burnley’s historic Weavers’ Triangle.

If successful, Banny’s Restaurant will open on the former Dexter Paints site in Trafalgar Street.

The plan was submitted to Burnley Council by Mr Ben Bannister, who runs Banny’s Restaurant at Colne’s Boundary Mill. It would involve demolishing the former shop and creating a new building for takeaway and eat-in dining.

The application is the latest in the “On the Banks” development in the historic quarter along the Leeds Liverpool Canal. It has created debate with many people objecting on social media sites while others stressing the importance of bringing jobs to town.

The application says “the design of the building is to create a contemporary building that doesn’t attempt to mimic the heritage buildings but does reference them in the use of stone as a building element along with large glazed areas and corporate branding/colour.

A consultation on the application expires on August 1st.
