Two Burnley town centre stores have closed – but shopping centre bosses have said Christmas trade was up from last year.
Toymaster, which was located in the former JD Sports store in the Charter Walk Shopping Centre, has decided not to extend its tenancy taken up last year.
And clothing store Evans, part of the Arcadia Group, which includes several big names, has closed as part of a wider national consolidation programme.
Evans, which had been in the town for around 15 years, had come to the end of its lease.
Charter Walk manager, Mr Chris Gribben, said that while the closures were disappointing most businesses reported a 20% rise in trade from last Christmas.
He said: “Our highest increase was 40% but most were around 20% which is very encouraging. Footfall into the centre was also up.”
He added that work to enlarge River Island is expected to be complete by the spring.
