Postal workers staged an unofficial walk-out on New Year’s Eve following the alleged sacking of a long-standing union rep.

The official is believed to be former Burnley Borough Council leader Stuart Caddy who was chairman of the East Lancashire branch of the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU), and a long-standing Royal Mail employee.

When contacted by the Express Mr Caddy would only comment that he was on sick leave.

Royal Mail confirmed that an unofficial strike had taken place at the Burnley Delivery Office.
