A Burnley hotel beat off competition from around Europe to win a coveted award.

Burnley’s Holiday Inn Express landed the Developing People award, announced at an international hotel conference in Athens last week.

To celebrate, staff welcomed stars from Songs for Victory, a new musical which had its premiere at The Colne Muni recently.

Regional general manager Kerian Barnes took her team to see the show at Colne’s Muni theatre and then laid on an aftershow supper for the cast who were all staying at the hotel for the night.

She said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive the Developing People award and bring the honours back to our team here in Burnley.

“It is so encouraging for them to know how their hard work and commitment has paid off.

“To be recognised in this way by the European hotel industry is amazing.”

The Songs of Victory show, which was performed again for local schoolchildren, first debuted as part of a bigger production staged as Songs for Heroes at London’s Dominion Theatre earlier this year.

The hotel’s projects included the Language Skills Business In The Community initiative earlier this year, which brought students
from Sir John Thursby Community College into the
hotel to gain their first experience of working in the hospitality industry.
