A TOP young florist beat off competitors from around the country to take second place at a prestigious national event.

Milly Davey (20), who works at Going Dutch in Standish Street, Burnley, was one of just 11 finalists to battle it out for the title of Interflora Florist of the Future 2011 at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.

Representing the North-West, Milly had to make a large centrepiece for the foyer at a Japanese dinner party, a bridal bouquet, a hat for a country cottage garden party and there was also a surprise round where she was given a selection of flowers and 10 minutes to fashion something for a Woodland Trust dinner.

Milly said: “I was nervous but it was quite exciting. I was really happy with second place as it was my first big competition.”
