A BURNLEY grandfather and businessman, who was a well known figure in the community, has died at the age of 58.

Michael Davis, known as Mick to family and friends, worked for Towneley Alarm Systems before the company was bought out.

He then set up his own business, continuing the Towneley Alarms brand, which was popular across the town.

Mr Davis, of Westbourne Avenue, ran the company for 10 years and had an excellent relationship with his clients.

He played in the Burnley and District Sunday Football League for 25 years, many of which were spent with Parkside FC. His passion for the game also led him into coaching the juniors at Burnley Belvedere.

A life-long season ticket holder at Turf Moor, Mr Davis’ fondest moment following the Clarets was the famous night in York in 1992, when promotion from Division 4 was secured.

In the past few years, he spent time travelling around the world with his wife Gwen, visiting Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Davis is survived by Gwen, son John, daughters Louise and Heather and grandchildren Lucy, Phillip and Tilly. His son John (27) is taking part in Manchester’s Shine Walk to raise money for Cancer Research in his father’s memory.
