Hundreds of new homes to be built in Burnley

HUNDREDS of new homes are set to be built across Burnley as regeneration plans finally begin to take shape.

Burnley Borough Council and partners Gleeson Homes have announced 50 new homes will be built on a site in Oswald Street, Stoneyholme, for private sale, with work expected to start soon.

The first of the houses will be available later this year.

The development will be the first of three schemes in the Daneshouse and Stoneyholme area following consultations with residents by Gleeson at the end of last year.

Sites in Abel Street and Barden Lane/New Hall Street are almost ready for handover, which will mean the construction of more than 100 homes for private sale can get under way.

The houses will sit alongside the new homes in Hurtley Street.

Coun. Peter McCann, executive member for housing and development for Burnley Council, said: “This is great news for the town, and shows our commitment to new housing in Burnley.

“The fact that our planned developments continue to happen is due to the dedication of the council in doing what we said we would do – improving housing across the town for the people of Burnley.

“We may have less funding following Government decisions but one of our key priorities remains new, affordable homes for the people of Burnley, and a better offer for those moving into the area.

“Burnley is on the up in many ways and this latest news just confirms that.”

Meanwhile, residents at the Pennine View development off Accrington Road, will soon be getting new neighbours at Pendle View, an estate across the road, which will eventually contain 25 homes.

In Burnley Wood, too, the Towneley Gardens site is nearing completion, with 53 properties for sale and rent and a further 68 to be started soon.

Linda Matura, Gleeson sales manager at the Bury office, added: “We are delighted that we will be starting to sell new homes in early March with construction starting at the same time.

“The first completions of these family homes will be in the middle of the year.”
