A RESPECTED local councillor who died after falling from a tree is believed to have suffered a fatal heart attack moments before.
Mr Alan Lawson, who was chairman of Worsthorne Parish Council, had been up a ladder cutting branches from a tree outside his Ravenoak Lane home when he suffered the cardiac arrest.
The former Towneley and St Theodore’s high schools teacher was airlifted to the Royal Blackburn Hospital after the fall last Thursday but he died shortly after.
A post-mortem carried out on Mr Lawson, who had a history of heart problems, revealed he died of natural causes and the inquest into his death was closed.
The funeral of the popular community figure will take place next Tuesday when a Requiem Mass will be held at St Mary’s RC Church at 10 a.m.
Mr Lawson will then be buried at Burnley Cemetery at 11-30 a.m.
