THE green green grass of Burnley and beyond will be featured in the popular “Countryfile” programme this weekend.

Cameras from the BBC One programme ventured onto the hills above Burnley and Rossendale where presenter Matt Baker met Burnley’s prominent countryside campaigner Cosima Towneley.

The programme focused on the 10th anniversary of the Mary Towneley loop. Matt Baker took time to ride part of the route on Danny, a native fell pony belonging to Christine Thomas, of Peers Clough Farm, Lumb, and met various local people en-route.

Cosima’s late mother Mary, Lady Towneley originally conceived, explored and championed the need to preserve Britain’s ancient highway heritage which constitute the majority of the present route. Cosima said: “They took a lot of shots from all over the area and I hope it will encourage people to revise their view of Burnley when they see the fantastic landscape in the borough and the wonderful recreational opportunities on offer.”

The “Countryfile” episode will be shown on BBC One this Sunday at 7 p.m.
