TRUE love has turned Burnley student Daniel Penrose into a marathon man.
Sports enthusiast Daniel, of Brunshaw Road, had long thought about tackling the internationally-renowned London Marathon, but it was only when he met his girlfriend Rebecca Fothergill that he stepped up to the starting line.
Rebecca has cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening inherited disease, and when 21-year-old Daniel hits the London streets on Sunday he will be running to raise cash for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. His sponsorship money will help fund research into treating and curing the disease.
Said Daniel, who plays for Blackburn Northern Tennis Club: “I have always wanted to run the London Marathon but had never really done anything about it until I met Rebecca. Seeing the things she has to do every day to keep herself healthy made me want to do something to help and spurred me on to apply. I haven’t done much running in the past, and it’s the first marathon I’ve done, so I know it will be a challenge, but knowing I am raising cash to help see off cystic fibrosis will spur me on.”
