WHEN student Rhiannon Preston saw a competition to find Britain’s cutest cat she didn’t paws for thought!

She entered her pet rescue cat Barney in the My Pet Superstar contest and the adorable moggy came runner-up out of 6,000 entries.

Rhiannon, who is a studying for her A-levels at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form College in Burnley, said: “I was really excited when I heard that Barney had won. She is a lovely cat, really quiet and affectionate.’’

Eighteen-year-old Rhiannon saw the competition, run by Drontal, a company that makes products for dogs and cats, advertised online so she entered Barney. Rhiannon, who lives in the Coal Clough Lane area of Burnley, also has two other cats, Sugar and Leo.

Rhiannon added: “I got Barney from the RSPCA about three years ago when she was only little. They didn’t realise she was a girl until she was neutered and by then it was too late to change her name because that’s all she would answer to.’’

Barney’s prize was a year’s supply of worming tablets and Rhiannon receives a year’s subscription to You and Your Cat magazine.
