Burnley RUFC firsts went down in an entertaining and high-scoring game at Didsbury on Saturday that definitely had an end of season feel to it.
The locals finished fifth in the Northern Division North Lancs 1 after the 43-39 defeat.
A poor start to the season proved costly to Burnley’s promotion hopes, as they have been in imperious form since Christmas.
Burnley’s scorers were Nino Angelone, Ben Healy, Matt Crowley and a Gus Ferguson brace.
Ferguson added two penalties and four conversions.
Burnley seconds had a fine 46-19 win over Eccles to round off a satisfactory season in their debut season in North 3.
Tries came from Joe Till, Rob O’Brien, Adam Spencer, Cameron Croasdale, a Phil Thornton brace and four conversions and a penalty from Spencer, as the locals go into their off season in good heart.
Meanwhile, the thirds, already promoted, warded off Clitheroe seconds and Blackpool and won the Division 5 North title at Chorley in a magnificent running display, as an 86-21 rout capped off a great year for Jason Bell’s side.
On Easter Monday, the Under 24s travel to face Blackburn (kick-off 2 p.m.) to round off the senior season.
The junior presentation night takes place at the club on Holden Road next Friday, April 25th at 7 p.m., with the juniors having their final fixtures the Sunday after, away at Tarleton.
