POLICE are warning residents in Burnley to be on their guard against bogus electric company officials after a uniform, folder and ID badge were stolen.

The items, from Southern Electric, were taken after thieves broke into a Volkswagen Transporter van in Cunningham Grove between 7-30 a.m. and 8-30 a.m. yesterday.

Thieves made off with a Southern Electric folder in a black laptop-style case, a jacket with the Southern Electric logo and white reflective stripes and the badge belonging to a member of staff.

Sgt Gordon McGeechan from Burnley police said: “I would urge people to look out for any potential bogus officials from Southern Electric calling at people’s doors.

“Don’t let them in if you are not expecting them. Contact Southern Electric and the police.”

Anyone who sees anything suspicious should contact Burnley police on 01282 425001 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
