Burnley motorcyclist killed in M65 crash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a motorcylist from the Burnley area died in a fatal crash on the M65 this morning.

Around 7-30 a.m. officers received reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a white Vauxhall Insignia between junctions 2 and 1 of the westbound carriageway.

The 41-year-old motorcyclist received multiple injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital but died a short time later. The driver of the car was shaken but uninjured.

Sgt Lee Campbell from the Road Policing Unit said: “At this stage it is not entirely clear what has happened and so I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of collision to come forward if they have any information that could help with our investigation.”

All three lanes of the westbound carriage way were closed between junctions 2 and 1 and at the roundabout at the end of the M65 where it joins with the M6 at junction 29 until 11-30 a.m. for accident investigation to take place.
