BURNLEY marathon man Brian Parker has completed the first of his 12 marathons.

The tireless fund-raiser, landlord at The Commercial in Harle Syke, is taking on 12 marathons, in 12 days, across 12 counties to raise money for Pendleside Hospice.

Starting off in Cheshire today, he took just six hours, six minutes to complete his 26 miles, his first ever marathon, and said afterwards: “I’m absolutely knackered. That Eddie Izzard needs shooting. I honestly can’t believe how difficult it was.

“Around 12 miles into it I started to feel a bit of pain in my calf so I had to slow down a little bit because all I was thinking was that I have to get up tomorrow and do this all again.

“I’m in a hotel next to Stoke City’s football ground and I’ve just been to a leisure centre for a jacuzzi which has eased the pain a bit. I’ll be up in the morning for a bowl of porridge and then we’ll be off again.”

His next marathon, across Staffordshire, will start tomorrow at 8 a.m.
