BURNLEY’s Labour Party has taken the unusual step of naming its candidates for the May elections for seats on Burnley Borough Council - very much in advance.

The secretary of Burnley Labour Party, Mr Peter Kenyon, said the decision was made to announce the candidates for the council seats so early due to the keenness of members.

He said: “We have been seeing a huge increase in membership of the party locally, and much greater keenness than before to take on the fight for the Labour Party’s values.”
