Burnley is red once again

The people of Burnley and Padiham have voted in Labour’s Julie Cooper as the town’s next MP.

Mrs Cooper polled 14,951 votes to finish just over 3,000 votes ahead of Liberal Democrat’s Gordon Birtwistle, whose five-year stint in Parliament comes to an end.

UKIP’s Tom Commis came third with 6,864 while Sarah Cockburn-Price (Con) polled 5,374 and Mike Hargreaves (Green) 850.
