The selfless act of a little girl has touched the hearts of Burnley folk in a big way and they are now rallying behind her.
Madison Regan (seven) is having 10 inches chopped off her waist length hair to raise money for the Little Princess Trust, a charity that makes wigs for terminally ill children.
She made the brave decision to do this after meeting another little girl on holiday in Florida who had been diagnosed with cancer and had just months to live.
Madison set her heart on wanting to do something to help and announced she wanted to donate some of her hair to the Little Princess charity.
Once news spread of the Brunshaw Primary School pupil’s kind act, donations and sponsor money started flooding in and the amount now stands at £400.
Several local businesses and individuals have also donated raffle prizes and there are collection boxes and sponsor forms scattered at various locations across Burnley.
A fund-raising night and surprise party has been arranged for the day when Madison goes for the chop on Friday, December 12th, at the Park View pub in Burnley. Madison, who will be having her hair cut at the Indulgence salon in Anglesey Avenue beforehand, will be driven there in a pink limousine and she will be the star of the show.
Her proud mum, Jackie of Venice Avenue, said: “We are so proud of Madison but she just takes it all in her stride. The response we have received from the people of Burnley has been staggering and we are so grateful. It is now our mission to make Burnley “hairmazing.’ ’’ Madison also has the support of stepdad Ian Rowley (32) and brother Charlie (11), who has just started in Year 7 at Blessed Trinity RC College, as well as her grandparents, two stepbrothers and stepsister.
The fund-raiser starts at 7pm and all are welcome. There will be a DJ, supper and entertainment, a grand raffle and auction for a weekend stay in a caravan in Blackpool donated by a well wisher.
