Since opening the facility there, the business has had strong links with Pendleside Hospice and this month see’s the brand launch their latest inititative. It comes in the form of a ‘boohooXPendleside Pop Up Charity Store’, located in the current Pendelside store on Burnleys’ Kierby walk; a stones throw from the main highstreet.

The brand have already taken up residence and are helping to transform the stores drab 80’s interior, to give the space a facelift that will attract as much custom as possible. The boohoo staff themselves are helping with painting and decoratoring the store and offering their time to act as the shop assistants during the weekend of the event.

The partnership idea was created by boohoo’s staff, through the recently formed ‘boohoo Charity Champions Committee’ acting as a sounding board for ideas, both for the way we work together with our chosen charity partners, but also to deliver a regional layer to ‘The boohoo Charity Partnership’.Each month staff from the brand have the opportunity to nominate different charities or put forward fundraising initiatives from the local area and the ‘The boohoo Charity Committee’ act as a non-bias group who decide where the funds go each month.

So whether it be that we sponsor the local children’s football tournament, or sponsor a colleague running a marathon, the staff have the chance to have a say in where the money goes.

Pendleside Hospice was founded as a charity in 1998 and is one of the principal providers of palliative and end of life care services to adults in Burnley and Pendle, last year the Hospice caring for over 1200 people living within this local community.

The Hospice costs £3.8 million each year to run, £2.8 million of which needs to be rasied from charitable donations. One of the ways it raises this money is from operating 8 Charity Shops across Burnley and Pendle, including its KeirbyWalk Shop in Burnley Town Centre. Together, last year, the shops made a profit of £242,831 which was used to fund direct patient care.

The Hospice is currently exploring ways of further developing its shop income and of making our shops appealing to all who shop in them and this unique initiative by boohoo certainly hits the mark. They have helped in supporting the refurbishment of the Keirby shop and all proceeds from their two day take over on the 21st and 22nd October will go direct to Pendleside.

The shop will then reopen for normal businss on Friday 28th October at 10.00.

In the meantime we would like to acknowledge all the hard work that is being undertaken by our staff and volunteers during the refurbishment and our customers for being patient with us whilst the refurbishment work is undertaken.

We hope and that all are going to love the newly refurbished shop, and that we will see many new and old customers at both the boohoo event and of course our grand reopening on the 28th.

All donations in the meantime, can be taken to our Duke Bar shop or any of our other shops.
