A QUIZ team from Burnley gave a star televison performance last night to take the crown off BBC brainboxes the Eggheads.
The boffins, from Vedas Recruitment in St James’s Row, beat the Eggheads in the nailbiting final of the hit show screened on BBC Two.
Fresh from their exciting victory, which saw them scoop a prize fund of £11,000, the Lancashire Hotpots, made up of Debbie Horsfall, Dan Nuttall and Lesley Burrows, all from Vedas, along with Anne Fenwick, Val Edson and Matt Jagger, hinted they could be entering more TV gameshows in the future.
They were selected by the BBC from more than 60 audition teams to challenge the Eggheads and team members were pitched head to head with an Egghead to answer three questions each on a specialist subject, with the winner of each round going through to the final.
The nailbiting finale saw one member of the Lancashire Hot Pots battle it out against five of the Eggheads for the coveted crown.
Team capain and Vedas finance manager Debbie Horsfall said: “The Eggheads are deemed to be the best in the country, so it was quite daunting, with the added pressure of being on national TV.
“But each team member did well and held their nerve. Although we lost our rounds – we were only beaten by one point, and were victorious in the final – much to the delight of all the team. A lot of preparation went into the challenge and it paid off for us”
Lesley Burrows, Vedas managing director, added: “It was a great experience for the Lancashire Hot Pots and for the employees here at Vedas, who all got involved in preparing the quiz team, with regular question rounds which made it a joint effort and was a lot of fun. We are on a roll now, so watch this space.”
