subsistEnce farmers in Sri Lanka will be given a helping hand, thanks to the Rev. Patrick Ingle’s 70th birthday bash.

Mr Ingle came up with the idea of supporting Operation Agri after seeing an appeal for help. He has supported the work of the Baptist Agriculutural Project throughout his ministry, and raised more than £500 with a Bacon Buttie Birthday Bash.

The proceeds will buy 251 day-old chicks, eight rabbits, six piglets and seven goats, and there will be even more animals when internet donations from friends and colleagues are added.

Said Mr Ingle: “When you get to 70 there is not a lot you want, so I wanted to do something positive, and the idea appealed to most people. I was delighted with the way friends and people at church responded. The animals will go to families and small communities to give them an income through breeding and selling eggs, with the intention of making them self sufficient.”
