BRIERCLIFFE: Summer activities at Queen Street Mill

BYTHELL-TAYLOR AWARDS – Representatives of the Briercliffe Society attended the leavers’ services of both primary schools which serve the children of Briercliffe to present the Bythell-Taylor Awards. Teaching colleagues at both schools use criteria agreed by the Briercliffe Society to select the winners from the Year 6 pupils. Society chairman Mr John Bentley, with Mrs Carol Bentley, presented the prize at St James’s, where the winner was Alex Howarth.

At Briercliffe School the presentation was made by former chairman of governors Coun. Roger Frost, and winners were Madison Emmett and Alfie Rogers.

SUMMER CRAFT CLUB – Queen Street Mill Textile Museum, Harle Syke, has organised a summer craft club for children.

All events, which cost £2 per child, take place at the mill museum and run from 10 a.m. to 11-30 a.m. Adults free. Textiles and design is the theme for next week; discovery and science, is the theme from August 8th; ancient worlds is the subject for the week beginning August 15th and British wildlife for the week commencing August 22nd. AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY – During the August Bank Holiday weekend, Queen Street Mill Museum has organised A Victorian Weekend. Meet the tackler and the Victorian school master among others!

Normal admission prices apply: under 16s and Burnley residents have free admission.
