BRIERCLIFFE: Family fun day and barbecue planned

BRIERCLIFFE SOCIETY – The June Trail, a boat trip on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which should have taken place on Monday, June 13th has been postponed. Another canal trip will be arranged for the early autumn.

LOCAL HISTORY GROUP – The Local History Group of the Briercliffe Society held its last meeting of the season at Haggate Baptist Church. Members finalised details of the exhibition, which tells the history of Briercliffe Library, and will be on display in the newly refurbished Briercliffe Library later in the month.

The group also resolved it would organise a heritage walk as part of the Burnley Heritage Open Days Festival in September. The walk will be a circular tour of Extwistle from the Roggerham Gate Inn. There will be refreshments before and after the walk, Details will be published soon.

COMMUNITY CENTRE – The management committee of Briercliffe Community Centre Association will meet at the home of chairman Coun. Roger Frost, on Monday, June 13th, at 7-30 p.m.

LADIES AEROBICS – A ladies aerobics and body tone class is held every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Briercliffe Community Centre in Jubilee Street. All abilities are welcome and there is no need to book.

TAI CHI – Lighthouse Tai Chi, in association with ELE, runs a tai chi class at Briercliffe Community Centre, every Thursday at 2 p.m. Classes are £4. To book and, for details, ring 07876 377321.

FUN DAY – St James’s Social and Outreach Committee has organised a family fun day and BBQ which is to take place at St James’s vicarage garden on Sunday, June 12th, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are £3 for adults and £2 for children.

CHOIR – The choir of St James’s Church will serve ploughman’s lunches in the church vestry after the 10-15 a.m. service on Sunday, July 17th. Tickets are £3 for adults and £2 for children. Proceeds will go towards the church roof appeal.

ANNIVERSARY BALL – This year sees the 170th anniversary of the founding of Briercliffe Parish Church and to celebrate the event there will be an anniversary ball on Saturday, September 17th. The venue is the Masonic Lodge in Burnley and the ball starts at 7-30 p.m. Formal dress is required and further information can be obtained by calling 420891.
