THE owner of a Burnley business gutted by a huge fire has spoken of his appreciation for his loyal customers.

Mr Rob Hutchinson, who owns the RDA store in Plumbe Street, said his shop recorded a 400% increase on normal footfall on its first day of re-opening.

RDA Trading – which is where the former Taskers used to be – caught fire just after midnight on Wednesday, June 8th.

Eight fire engines and more than 50 firefighters worked through the night to tackle the blaze and stop it from spreading to other buildings.

Mr Hutchinson said: “The response from our customers has been lovely, overwhelming.

“Thankfully the main shop, which reopened on Wednesday, only received smoke and water damage.

“The sofa showroom was completely gutted though and that is still being investigated so we haven’t had permission to demolish it yet.

“We had nearly 2,000 people through the door on Wednesday, which I did not expect at all.

“Everyone commented on how quickly we had managed to reopen and how pleased they were. I hope to rebuild the showroom eventually.”

Police confirmed that they were treating the fire as arson and are still following a number of leads.
