Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Burnley.

The incident happened at around 6.40am on Saturday 29 August at Super Discount Market on Briercliffe Road.

A man went into the store armed with a rounders bat and a lock knife. He threatened the man working behind the counter and demanded that he hand over money.

He made his way behind the counter and struck the shop worker with the bat before making off empty handed. Fortunately the shop worker was not badly injured.

The man was described as Asian and spoke with a Punjabi accent. He was around 5ft 9 tall, of a slim build, thought to be in his early twenties and was wearing a dark or black coloured cotton hooded jacket, dark tracksuit bottoms and Nike trainers. He had his face covered.
