A mother-of-three aims to collect 300 Advent calendars and selection boxes for children in Burnley.

Jane Snape (32) is a social work student at Burnley UCLAN who is on a placement at Brunshaw Primary School.

She decided to do something for Christmas for the youngsters of the town.

“I am on a placement at a local primary school and I have also spent time working at the Children’s Centre in Burnley while I am also a mother-of-three myself,” said Jane.

“I do my bit for charity but it saddened me to hear recently that Burnley is said to be one of the most deprived areas in the country.

“I think Burnley as a town gets a bad press and what we have in Burnley is a great community spirit and everyone pulls together.

“I just want to do my bit for Christmas so I launched a Facebook page, advertised on Burnley Buy and Sell and also asked local shops to donate.”

Jane approached large stores like Tesco and Wilkinsons who have contributed to her collection while local stores such as Photo Hippo on Standish Street have also chipped in - and if people want to donate, they can drop off their contributions at Photo Hippo as well.

“The children and parents from Brunshaw Primary School have also contributed,” added Jane. “Up to now I have around 120 boxes but I expect to have 300 by the end of November and I am going to distribute them to the Foodbank in Burnley and also to Burnley’s Children’s Centre.”
