A MAN said to have had a loaded sawn-off pistol and ammunition at his home appeared at Pennine Magistrates' Court.
Haroon Rafique (36), of Every Street, Nelson, is charged with possessing a prohibited .22 calibre double-barrelled firearm, possessing cartridges and bullets designed to expand on impact, threatening to kill a detective sergeant and assault by beating.

The alleged offences are all said to have taken place on June 29th.

The court was told police allegedly found a firearm in a suit in a
wardrobe. The prosecution claim it could be fired and was loaded.

The defendant, whose case will be heard at the crown court, was remanded in custody until September 21st.
