The annual Shireburn Trophy competitions, sponsored by Steve Alcock of the Shireburn Arms, took place at Stonyhurst Park over the weekend.
While most golf courses were closed on Saturday, immediate past captain Sue Kirk simply ignored the torrential rain to win with a tremendous stableford score of 42 points.

Category One winner was Joyce Kenyon with 35 points, and Val Fairless won the Category Two prize with 31 points.

Joyce Kenyon was also nearest the pin, and lady captain Jean Alcock powered her way to the longest drive.

The men had much better conditions for their Sunday competition, with only stiff winds and showers to hinder the scoring!

Graham Monk finally showed his true class in amassing 42 points and must surely now come under strict scrutiny from the handicapping committee!

Last year's winner, Will Walne, made a valiant defence of the trophy, but could only win the Category One prize with 38 points.

Malcolm Kenyon won the Category Two prize with 32 points to give the Kenyon family yet more free dining at the Shireburn Arms.

Nearest the pin was John Austin and Russell Davies claimed the longest drive.

The presentation buffet evening was well attended and enjoyed by all, to further enhance the reputation of Stonyhurst Park as one of the friendliest golf clubs in the region.
