BARNOLDSWICK mechanic Stephen Greenwood scored his first-ever hole in one from his first shot on the first hole at Ghyll.
The 27-year-old's feat also earned him the first-ever WRMG Bradford Golf Union Player of the Month award.

Representing Ghyll in the WRMG Bradford Golf Union Scratch League Division 2, his 188-yard drive from the first tee landed straight in the par three hole.

But the four-handicapper went on to lose his match against Tom Robertshaw from Cleckheaton two down, after his heroics played havoc with his game: "Everyone was coming up to me and congratulating me as I walked between holes. I was shaking all the way up the opening nine.

"I couldn't hit a thing after that. I was delighted to get the hole in one, but, to be honest, I'd rather have won the game!

"And I left out of pocket too after I bought everyone a celebratory whisky!"

Scratch League sponsor WRMG Toyota softened the blow of defeat with the monthly award, also adding the weekend use of a Toyota Auris SR.

Greenwood, who has played golf since the age of 14, was part of the successful team that won the Scratch League for the first time in Ghyll's 100-year history.

Last year he won the club's two Bank Holiday competitions, shooting a one under par gross score, and he won the club's captain's prize in 2005.
