THE main event at Clitheroe Golf Club proved to be Saturday's Medal when improved weather conditions brought out members in force.
Simon Swindells was top man when he produced a 73-6-67 score to win Division One with a two-shot margin over newcomer to the unsaddling enclosure C.P. Smith.
Steve Ackers produced a stronger finish to pip young James Mulligan for third place, both returning nett 71s.
Mike Ainsworth recorded an eight on the par five 13th but kept his cool for a steady rather than spectacular finish to take the Division Two prize.
Ainsworth's 71 was just one shot too good for second placed Giles Lawson.
Council Leader Michael Ranson might declare his third place prize when he took time out to post a nett 73 and a better back nine than David Kitson who had to settle for fourth with the same score.
Nett 70s by three competitors filled the top three spots in the Midweek Medal and there were comments of "what might have been" from all three after dropped shots at the last two holes.
Paul Connolly topped the leader board in spite of a double bogey, bogey finish having established a solid round with an earlier three birdies.
John Fryer crept into second place courtesy of a better back nine over Jeff Crowther who was content to settle for third.
The Three Man Team event went to the wire as the winning trio of Trevor Jones, Simon Hale and Geoff Sutcliffe produced two birdies on the 17th to finish with 78 points.
Phil Hanson teamed-up with Barry Thomas and Tim Stanley and finished two shots off the pace to take second place with 76.
