After a 33-year "exile" in Somerset, Barnoldswick native Sue Severn (nee Morley) has made a dramatic return to her Yorkshire roots.
The seven-handicapper and former Somerset first-teamer of 12 years standing, shot rounds of 87 and 82 in appaling conditions at the very testing Rudding Park course in Harrogate to claim the ladies' club championship.

Lying in second place after round one behind nine-handicapper Alice Boothroyd, Severn utilised her experience of links golf at her former club, Burnham and Berrow, and in the windy conditions of round two produced a brilliant round of 82 and a four-stroke victory.

The PE teacher and Carnegie College graduate was understandably overjoyed at her success on "home" soil.

And success means that she now holds two championship titles in one year, as she also won the top prize at her club in Florida where she spends the winter months!

The last time Severn won anything in Yorkshire it was in 1971.
Then she was crowned as Barnoldswick Gala Queen by Jimmy Tarbuck!
