Mytton Fold Golf Club held the first round of its Algarve Medal at the weekend.
The fantastic prize for the winner and his guest is an all-expenses trip to golfers' heaven – the Algarve – courtesy of Mytton Hotel and Golf Complex.

The first competition was, as is to be expected, keenly and closely fought, with Ray Standring (74-8-66) coming out on top, beating captain elect Frank Hindle (79-13-66) in a card play-off.

Just one stroke behind came Dave Bolton (80-13-67) with Sue Hughes (97-27-70) coming in fourth.

Former club captain Gary Davies shot an outstanding round, carding a nett 64, but unfortunately after paying for his entry he forgot to make his mark on the signing in sheet, resulting in disqualification.

In a great sporting gesture, Ray has invited Gary to be his nominated guest on the Portuguese trip.

Ray also took a share of the twos prize money.

He said after his win: "I didn't play well on the first few holes, but got my head down later, scoring two under par for the second half, starting with a two on the 9th".

Ray shared the twos pot with Dave Bolton and Gary Davies, who took a double helping with twos on both the 9th and the 18th.

All eyes are now on the second Algarve round on June 13th when Mytton's golfers are given a second chance to travel to Portugal, and to join Ray and Gary on the November trip.
