NELSON won the prestigious East Lancashire Golf Association Handicap Trophy at the weekend.
The combined efforts of Kevin Dornan, Niall Ormerod, Curtis Clarkin and Barry Neill were good enough to get the better of the tough weather at Green Haworth and beat the field.

Back at Marsden Heights and former captain Fred Wade was back in the winner's enclosure after lifting the Guinness Goblet.

He carded 76-11-65 to win the competition on a card play-off.

Dave Hall topped the 0-12 Division by returning 73-6-67) to edge out Mick Dingwall (78-11-67) on the card and leave Paul Duerden (76-7-69) in third place.

Another former captain, Ian Ferguson, won the 13-28 division with a score of 82-17-65. Peter Simpson (81-15-66) was runner-up with Allan Parkinson (89-22-67) third.

Steve Duerden returned a 73 to take the gross prize.

The Spring Meeting was won by Vernon Pickles (80-11-69).

Ray Duckworth (86-14-72) was runner-up ahead of Hartley Berry (89-17-72).

Division prizes went to Shaun Field and Ray Heyes and Dave Bertram had the best gross on the day.

Defending champions Ian and Alison Short had the settle for second spot in the Centenary Mixed at Nelson.

Jan Brown an Paul Holyhead (68.2) won by the narrowest of margins from the Shorts (68.4) with Philip Wright and Ann Wardley (69) taking third place.
