Ladies take centre stage at Mytton Fold GC

THE ladies were to the fore at Mytton Fold Golf Club.

The weekend saw Lady Captain's Day held in somewhat changeable conditions with players facing sun, heavy rain and high winds, often at the same time!

The ladies' section was won by Allison Nuttall with 36 points, just one ahead of Jean Sanderson who beat Judith Kay on a card play-off.

Sue Hughes and Jean Sanderson took Mytton Fold into the third round of the Daily Mail Foursomes when they beat Stonyhurst away.

The men's section of Lady Captain's Day was headed by Keith Gill with 41 points, three clear of Mark Schofield.

Frank Tundstall finished third just a point behind with David Clegg (fourth) and Graham Plant divided by a card play-off on 36 points.

Craig Gornall carded rounds of 77 and 73 to win the Scratch Trophy at Whalley Golf Club.

That 36-hole score saw him finish seven clear of Rob Andrew (81 and 76) with Rob Hilton a shot further back.

The Whalley team for the ELGA Scratch Shield at Blackburn next month will be completed by Colin Elliott (161) with Chris Blackadder named as reserve after two rounds of 82.

Gornall also topped Division One of the subsidiary medal with Mike Conroy (78-6-72) in second place.

Stuart Brown (86-17-69) topped Division Two ahead of Nick Williamson (85-13-72) and the Division Three honours were claimed by Harry Tuley (98-23-75) an George Blenkinship (99-22-77).

The ladies at Whalley Golf Club competed for the Scott Leggatt Foursomes on Thursday.

Winners were Pam Strange and Marilyn Bulcock (102-27.5-74.5) and the runners up were Iris Sherry and Anne Prior (103-25.3-77.7). Third place were Lesley Lohou and Elaine Bale (99-21.2-77.8).

These players along with Maggie Harvey and Linda Rhodes will go on to represent Whalley Golf Club in the next round.

Maureen Cox (105-26-79) won the ladies' medal at Clitheroe Golf Club.

Second place went to Kath Townley (94-14-80) and Chris Stokes (85-5-80) was third.

Tom Tuley again emerged the winner of the junior medal at Whalley with a score of 76-9-67.

Scott Byrom (86-15-71) was runner-up and Arron Ripley (91-18-73) claimed third place.
