NELSON golfer Kirsty O'Connor helped Wales finished 11th in the European Ladies' Amateur Team Championships in Sweden.
Following the 36-hole qualifying element of the event, at Stenungsunds Golf Club near Gothenburg, Wales finished ninth and were, therefore, denied a chance of winning the event outright.

Against Finland in the first of their matchplay games, O'Connor teamed-up with Stephanie Evans to win 3 and 2, as Wales progressed 4-1.
But the same pair lost 6 and 5 against Norway in their next match, as Wales went down 4-1.

Against Switzerland, in the match to decide 11th and 12th places, the O'Connor-Evans partnership was back in winning mood as they won 2-up.

Wales won that game 4-1 to secure 11th place, in an event where the host nation emerged as the eventual winners by beating Holland in the final.

O'Connor qualified for the Welsh team by winning the Welsh Ladies' Closed Championships in May.

Having already represented Lancashire at senior level, her golf has developed during the first two years of a four-year course at Ball State University in Indiana.

There she combines studies for a degree in German with intense golf and plays a dozen representative matches each year.

Having had her first taste of international golf, the talented 23-year-old will now be hoping for another Welsh call later in the summer.

Wales are due to host the Home Internationals at Wrexham in September, and she is hoping for the call to return from her studies and come up against the best amateur lady golfers from across Great Britain.
